chiropractic and other holistically-oriented physicians!
With discussion buzzing about the rising costs of healthcare, the results of a seven-year study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics showed that patients visiting chiropractors and other holistically-oriented physicians who serve as primary care providers (PCPs) have lower utilization costs and higher patient satisfaction levels than patients treated by conventional medical doctors.
When compared to patients enrolled in a traditional HMO, patients who saw chiropractors or other contemporary and alternative medicine (CAM) providers as their PCP reported:
- 60% fewer hospitalizations
- 62% fewer outpatient surgical cases
- and 85% lower pharmaceutical costs
The kicker was that these doctors were not managing just neck and back pain cases. The chiropractors and other CAM doctors treated cases ranging from upper respiratory infections, allergies and headahces, to orthopedic and other medical conditions. All that with an over 90% patient satisfaction level to boot!
The Condition of the Month for June is Jaw Pain/TMD. Check out the linked .PDF below to learn more about some natural alternative/complementary treatment options available for this problem.

This link from RealAge goes to an article discussing how people can confuse the thirst and hunger responses within the body. It’s a phenomenon I’ve heard about before. I think the suggestion in the article about trying water first when you are feeling what seems like hunger is solid.
However, I don’t necessarily agree with the information presented in the link from the article about water consumption. I, as well as many others in the natural health field, think that most people are NOT consuming enough water on a daily basis, and it is having adverse effects upon their health.
My suggestions for proper water intake are outlined in this previous post.
